Our Practice

James D. Barber, OD
Dr. Barber is a graduate of the University of West Georgia and received his doctorate at the Southern College of Optometry in 1983. Since then, he has been in private practice in Covington, Ga.  He is the Vice President of the Society of Professional Optometrists and a member of the American Board of Clinical Optometry.  Dr. Barber is an active member of the Covington community and a member of Covington First United Methodist Church.  A long-time member of the Lions Club, he donates optometry supplies and eye exams to their Sight Projects.  He lives with his wife, Shelly, and has two adult children, Megan and Adam.  When not in the office, he enjoys volunteering, reading, and traveling.

Robert L.  Elwell, OD
Dr. Elwell is a graduate of the University of Alabama/Birmingham School of Optometry in 1976. He received his BS from Virginia Tech in 1969 and spent two and a half years in the U.S. Air Force. He has been in private practice Optometry since 1976 and is a consultant in Low Vision to the Center for the Visually Impaired in Atlanta since 1977. He has been working with Dr. Barber since 1998 and currently owns a private practice in Monticello, Georgia.
